Mold Removal and Preventative Measures

January 6th, 2017

According to a study done at the University of Arizona in 2003, all houses have mold of some sort, somewhere on the premises. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the dangerous kind, but it does alarm homeowners and those trying to vigilantly upkeep their buildings.  Mold can not only make people sick, but it weakens structures and silently damages walls, floors, and ceilings.  With that in mind, it’s easy to see why mold removal and preventing its growth as much as we can is imperative to the integrity of our homes and businesses.  Follow along for some steps you can take to prevent mold growth and avoid the often costly endeavor of mold removal.

Mold Needs Moisture

Be aware that anywhere there’s moisture, there could be mold.  Dark, damp places are perfect breeding grounds for mold: bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens are ripe with possibility for mold growth.

Break out the Caulk Gun

Make sure your have excellent caulking around water fixtures and windows.  This is a simple but essential step to take in preventing the advent of mold and needing to call in the pros for mold removal services.

Look Up

Clean out your gutters.  When your gutters get clogged, they won’t function properly (i.e. they’ll collect water instead of redistributing it) increasing chances of flooding into your structure and seepage into walls.  While you’re up there, make sure the roof is solid and doesn’t have any leaks.  Sometimes these leaks aren’t obvious, for example, when they manifest in a crawlspace or attic that doesn’t get accessed often.

Mold can be sneaky and doesn’t always show itself in the most expected places.  Be vigilant about preventing mold and when you do need to do some thorough mold removal, contact the experts at ServiceMaster Restoration and Cleaning.  Our team will make your space safe and clean efficiently, effectively, and boasts excellent customer service.
